Hello, I'm not sure how or why I am starting this so.. I guess I will start with some basic background. My name is Marie Rets. I'm supper cool!

Two years ago my cousin asked me to write his mission companion and for some reason I said yes. The only thing I knew about this guy was that he was a Dr. from Russia. Lucky for me he turned out to be really cute!! :)

Anton and I wrote for the last year of his mission and became good friends. About three months after he got home I found I had some extra time off work and I had some extra money I had saved for a trip that never panned out. So I e-mailed Anton and asked if it would be ok for me to visit. Three months later I was flying half way around the world, by myself to meet some guy I only knew through letters. You can't really blame my mom for being a little worried. :)
But I didn't have any hesitation or fear at all traveling by myself until I stepped off the plain in Perm, Russia, and started walking towards the tram. 'What in the world was I doing here?' I was about to actually meet this boy and for the first time in my life I truly had nothing to say. AHH!!
The tram took us all of 100 feet to the door of the small airport and I flowed through the crowd like a lost sheep. As we passed through the doors, past the luggage claim I saw a large crowd of people and there near the back I see a hand and a huge smile pop out of the crowd. He gave me a hug and with that huge grin of his started asking me how my trip was and I responded in a detached manner. Thank goodness he's sweet. :)
The whole car ride home I struggled with all of my might to think of something to say, but the only thing I kept saying was 'It's so green here, it's so green here" (look how green and pretty :))
I did manage to ask if we could stop to get me a phone card so I could call my mom. I had to ask Anton for his help, seeing how I didn't speak Russian and while the man who was checking us out went to ask a question, Anton turned to me and told me that my money was counterfeit. :O I started mentally freaking out. In Russia having counterfeit money can be a worse charge than killing someone (depending on who you are). I started rambling, "but I got it from the bank" and he just got this huge grin. I couldn't believe he had tricked me, but it was the best thing he could have done. It broke the ice and I haven’t had any problems talking since. :) We had so much fun from there!

A day later we had our first kiss and I was invited to join him in NY that fall for a visit he had planned. The day after that we talked about dating and we would make a decision when I meet him in NY three months later.

But two days after that, we officially decided to get married. YAY :) Mommy, "I'm coming home with a rock on my finger!"

And another three long months after that Anton and I meet in NY for our trip where we stayed with our wonderful friends the Snedaker family. We had a great week visiting the sights and wonderful people from his mission before we flew home to Utah.

A week or so before the wedding Anton's sister Anya and their parents flew out to Utah and we took them around to see all of the local sights.

And then on November 15, 2008 Anton Rets and I were married for all time and eternity in the Saint George, LDS Temple.

Now almost exactly a year later we are still doing well. My mom was kind enough to allow Anton and I to stay in her home. We really enjoyed our time there, but with our first baby due, we made the decision to move out. We are now renting my mom's town home and we love it! But the rest will have to be held for another day. Welcome to my blog. :)
